SCULPTURE: MONTALTO SCULPTURE PRIZEAboutThe Montalto Sculpture Prize $20,000 acquisitive award and Pennon Hill people’s choice award $1,000 (non-acquisitive). Is open to all artists working in any medium. The Montalto Sculpture Prize was conceived by John & Wendy Mitchell, a further extension of their vision for a winery that combined estate grown premium wines with award winning architectural design and one of the best restaurants on the Mornington Peninsula. In 2003 their passion for supporting the visual arts was realised with an annual sculpture prize. Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove provides a picturesque outdoor gallery that embraces all aspects of the vineyard, from the orchard and olive groves to the herb garden and wetlands. Curated by Neil Williams, the sculptures are creatively sited throughout the 50 acre property. The collection has now become an integral part of Montalto, adding interest and creative energy to an otherwise idyllic scene . The winner, selected once the works are in situ, will be announced at the opening on Sunday 15 February 2009 at 4pm. In April, at the conclusion of the exhibition the Pennon Hill people’s choice award is announced. This is a non-acquisitive prize of $1000, made to the artist whose sculpture received the most public votes throughout the exhibition. A further Mitchell Family Choice Award is made, a gift of a case of wine to the artist selected for this award.
