WINE: 2004 MONTALTO RIESLINGOur Riesling is always a favourite of our Cellar Door customers and the 2004 release has been no exception, showing all the delicacy and youthful freshness we expect from our Montalto release. The 2004 starts with wonderfully lifted aromas of lime citrus, pear and lemon blossom with a hint of spice. The palate is awash with ripe fruit and spicy notes all tightly held with crisp acidity and complemented by a fine dry finish. VintageA famous ‘Indian’ summer saw consistent temperatures continue well into autumn, offsetting some cooler conditions experienced earlier in summer. Yields were up from the previous record low yields of 2002 and 2003, however, such was the consistency of the fine weather, the later ripening variety of Riesling, was hand picked in perfect condition. FermentationThe fruit was hand-picked, to ensure that it arrived at the winery in optimum condition. The Riesling was pressed as full bunches to ensure that the wine kept a high level of freshness and to avoid excessive contact between juice and skins and the extracted phenolic (flavours from the skins of the grape) flavours. We then fermented the juice into wine over a two week period at low temperatures to again help preserve the clean and delicate flavours our Riesling is renowned for. CellaringThe 2004 is a wonderful wine to enjoy in its youth to appreciate the vibrant expressive nature of the 2004 vintage. It will however, be a great wine to watch evolve over the next 6 – 8 years as it develops in colour, softens in texture and shows a wonderful array of toasty, marmalade and honeyed notes. Recommend now or 6 - 8 years. Technical Information
