WINE: 2004 MONTALTO VERJ - NO-ALCOHOL PINOT NOIR

Wine: 2004 Montalto Verj - No-Alcohol Pinot Noir

‘Verj’ is our non-alcoholic Pinot Noir. Enjoyed by our customers for its crisp fruit characters, it evolved from our popular ‘Verjuice’ sold at our cellar door. Picked a little riper than its condiment sibling, it exhibits the fresh red-fruit characters seen in Pinot Noir along with green apple acidity, whilst carrying a sweet edge. Its wonderfully refreshing served nicely chilled and can be served with a splash of soda or mineral water to temper the sweetness.

Vintage

We hand harvested the Pinot Noir grapes used for our Verj early in the season to capture a more bracing acidity in the grape which helps balance the unfermented sugar. The grapes are harvested at around 65% of the ripeness at which we pick for table wine.

Fermentation

Following hand harvesting, the fruit was de-stemmed and crushed, then soaked for 3-4 hours before being pressed, this short time on skins allows for the introduction of some colour and delicate flavours from the skins. Following pressing, the juice was cold stabilized and sterile filtered. Our Verj was then held in tank at 2 degrees and bottled in November 2004.

Cellaring

Our Verj is best enjoyed young for its freshness and crispness of fruit character.
