At Montalto we believe our wine should be an expression of its origin, a representation of the best fruit produced from its site in a particular vintage. For the most part, this means grapes grown on our 30 acres of vines here at Montalto.
Therefore our emphasis is on producing fruit of outstanding quality. Care and attention to detail in the vineyard is paramount – well balanced vines, low cropping levels and the exploration and use of alternatives to chemical sprays all play their part in producing high quality fruit. Minimal interference winemaking is focussed on preserving and enhancing the characters from our site with individual parcels of fruit from different patches on our estate processed separately and blended just prior to bottling.
The result is wine that we feel very proud of, and that is receiving critical and popular acclaim.
Visitors can taste our wine in the intimate rammed earth cellar door. Our experienced cellar door staff are all passionate about wine, having worked in both vineyard and winery as well as cellar door. Wine tastings are friendly and informative, with visitors able to learn as much or as little as they like. In addition to wine, the cellar door is also the place to experience our olive oil and other pantry products.
Montalto received the award for Best Cellar Door Experience in Victoria 2006 from the Great Wine Capitals of the World network, who run the Best of Wine Tourism Awards. This award, judged by a Victorian panel was great recognition for our cellar door team. We then went on to the international competition with judges from all over the world where we won overall 2006 Best Winery Destination for Victoria .
