IMPORTANT UPDATE: MONTALTO SCULPTURE PRIZE

For 20 years, the Montalto Sculpture Prize has been a constant on the sculpture calendar of events in Australia, providing an opportunity for artists to showcase their works, and introducing sculpture to many of our visitors.

Our permanent collection provides a snapshot of works created over this time and continues to be a passion and a joy to be shared by all who visit us in Red Hill.

Sculpture has been a part of the fabric of Montalto since the very beginning, with our first Prize opening 12 months after we opened to the public.  We love sharing sculpture and it remains a pivotal part of what we do here at Montalto, however we feel that after 20 years, the time has come for the shape of this to change. We are energised by what the potential of this might be.

It has been an absolute pleasure running the Montalto Sculpture prize for the last 20 years. We have been dedicated to providing the exhibition space and giving artists the opportunity to gain exposure through showing with us every year, and can only hope that we have been a valuable stepping stone in their art careers. I have met so many artists over this time, along with the many guest judges and of course the Montalto core judges, who have shared the 20-year journey. It feels like it has very much been a family affair.

Now is the right time to end the Prize and re-evaluate, we are exploring new ideas to continue with Sculpture and the arts at Montalto, and will share these when the time is right. We love collaboration, being at the heart of everything we do, and welcome our community to share ideas as always.

For now, I would like to sincerely thank each artist (and their families), the judges and everyone who has visited Montalto to wander our sculpture trail. Over the next little while we will be working on improving the presentation of our incredible permanent collection, which will always be free to be viewed by our visitors.

In the meantime, the Montalto Sculpture Trail permanent collection will always remain free to all visitors – we feel passionately that as many people as possible can continue to enjoy these incredible works each and every time they come to visit.
